ABS-CBN Holds 3rd Star Magic Ball

Continuing a grand tradition that started three years ago, ABS-CBN once again organized a Star Magic Ball to mark the 17th anniversary of its talent management and development arm on August 30 at the Rizal Ballroom of Shangri-La Makati.

Photographers lined the red carpet as dozens of celebrities wearing formal gowns and suits paraded before them. They kept snapping their photos as the stars made their way up the grand staircase leading to the Rizal Ballroom. There were photo booths set up in the lobby of the Rizal Ballroom where stars could have their candid photos taken while waiting for the program to start. Wine glasses were offered to the celebrities as they reached the end of the red carpet. And the venue was decorated with photos of marble statues reminiscent of classical Greek sculpture.

By 9:45 pm, event hosts Piolo Pascual, Bea Alonzo, and John Lloyd Cruz started giving away the coveted trophies to the stars whose fashion styles were exceptional that night. They are:

Couples of the Night: Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion tied with Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson

Most Stylish Star of the Night: John Lloyd Cruz

Most Elegant Award: Bea Alonzo

Most Glamorous Person of the Night: Anne Curtis

Classic Chic Pair: Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil

Classic Chic Couple: Zanjoe Marudo and Mariel Rodriguez

Best Dressed Couple of the Night: Maja Salvador and Rayver Cruz

Fashion Forward: Yeng Constantino

Among the couples spotted that night were Claudine Barretto and husband Raymart Santiago, Rica Peralejo and fianc Joseph Bonifacio, John Estrada and fiance Priscilla Meirelles. Real-life couples Angelica Panganiban and Derek Ramsey, Diether Ocampo and Rima Ostwani, as well as Mariel Roriguez and Zanjoe Marudo who hardly separated from each other that night.

Loveteam couples Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Melissa Ricks and Matt Evans, and Shaina Magdayao and John Prats also appeared on the red carpet together.

For the first time, Gretchen was able to attend a Star Magic Ball and she talked about an upcoming teleserye with her sister Claudine. Later that night, Gretchen was seated together with Pops Fernandez; Ruffa Gutierrez dropped by their table to say hello. Ruffa was accompanied by her brother Raymond Gutierrez, one of the hosts of GMA-7's talk show Showbiz Central.

Another first-timer at the Star Magic Ball was Maricar Reyes, who refused to talk about Hayden Kho and the issues surrounding his sex-video scandal.

Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto walked the red carpet while holding hands, causing a flurry of excitement among photographers. Later on, Kristine separated from her date to grant a photo op with her ex-boyfriend Jericho Rosales.

Another ex-couple, Sam Milby and Anne Curtis, also arrived at the event together, fueling speculations that they might have gotten back together.

Rafael Rosell showed up with his date, Aze Sasaki, who was FHM's Girlfriend of the Year in 2004. The two clarified that they are just friends.

Mother Lily Monteverde attended the celebrity event with her daughter Roselle Monteverde-Teo and talent manager Arnold Vegafria. Also in attendance were Robina Gokongwei-Pe, Senior Vice President and Group General Manager, Robinsons Retail Group; Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng, Summit Media President; and Jo-Ann Maglipon, YES! and PEP editor-in-chief.

Keren Pascual organized the third Star Magic Ball.

Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin Break-Up, Confirmed!

Its confirmed: Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin have broken up almost two weeks ago but neither of them is talking just yet.

Was there a "third party" or have they just fallen out of love like what usually happens between showbiz couples? Or did somebody pressure them into breaking up?

Let's wait until the two decided to speak up.

Yes! Life Stories: Dingdong Dantes

Yes! Magazine is about to release its first "bookazine" called "Yes! Life Stories". And unfolding his most private realities, deepest dreams, and darkest fantasies on its maiden issue is the country's hottest matinee idol of today - Dingdong Dantes or Jose Sixto Gonzales Dantes III in real life.

"This book contains my most private realities, my deepest dreams, and my darkest fantasies," writes Dingdong Dantes before issuing a severe warning: "If you're not ready to handle my truth...then don't turn the page."

Adding more voices to the bookazine are some of the closest people in Dingdong's life like his Manager Perry Lansigan and rumored girlfriend Marian Rivera who will share their most valuable insights about the actor.

And aside from the juicy revelations and never-before-heard confessions, Yes! Life Stories will also feature some of Dingdong's artistic images taken by ace photographers Massimiliano Cori, Jay Tablante, and Lon Liwen.

Presented in four segments: Reality, Dreams, Fantasy, and Perception - the pictures capture Dingdong in various roles and scenarios as conceptualized by the upcoming Stairway To Heaven lead star himself.

Dingdong unleashes his perfect physique while basking on the ranch, assumes the role of a decorated soldier, and takes on the legendary Spartan warrior Leonidas. He portrays these characters with much gusto and with his usual intensity.

The image of Dingdong - arms outstretched on a wooden cross with blood gushing on the side - emulating Jesus Christ's crucifixion is perhaps the most disturbing photo of the 29-year-old actor.

YES! editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon edited Dingdong's bookazine, Andrew Paredes wrote the stories, and Nat Clave served as art director.

YES! Life Stories: Dingdong will be launched on August 25.

Mar Roxas - Korina Sanchez Wedding on October 23, 2009

Senator Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez' wedding will finally push through.

The Date. The wedding is set in the afternoon of October 23, 2009.

The Church. It's a toss-up between Sto. Domingo Church and the Manila Cathedral.

"Mar and I want to hold it at the Sto. Domingo Church which has a long walk and a beautiful entrance with beautiful stained glass all over it. There are wonderful, wide corridors and a garden in the middle. The Manila Cathedral is also an old church which has beautifully gilded cornices and a beautiful ceiling and is very regal aside from it already being air-conditioned. There may be another church we are looking at, like San Sebastian Church and Quiapo Church. We will decide which one this week." according to Korina.

The Reception. The reception will definitely be held at Bahay na Puti (in Cubao, Quezon City), the home of Mars lolo and lola and the venue of the reception for the wedding of Mars parents, former Sen. Gerry Roxas and Judy Araneta, and his aunt Baby Araneta and Dr. Raul Fores.

Korina said, "In a big way, we are following tradition. There may be more than a thousand guests although we have yet to finalize the list. Mar has relatives in Negros, Iloilo, Capiz and Bulacan; while mine are from Pampanga. Some of my relatives will come from New York."

The Entourage. Korina and Mar have yet to finalize the list of ninongs and ninangs and secondary sponsors. But all the rest of the entourage are already in placed.

"I think I will have 12 bridesmaids. I have called my best friends from my childhood until today. Ive lost touch with some of them so I had to look them up and call them. They were all thrilled and so am I. These bridesmaids make this special event very real for me as these are women who had been there to share my lowest moments and my highest throughout my life so far. I will have six flower girls one of whom is my niece Saila. Of course, Baby James is our ring bearer, Dyan Castillejos son Matthew is the Bible bearer and I am hoping I can make my nephew Miguel walk as the coin bearer. My two nieces, Tyra and Maya, will be junior bridesmaids along with Mercedes, Mars niece." she said delightfully.

Other Wedding Details. Kris Aquino will anchor the ABS-CBN coverage of the wedding. Korinas gown will be designed by Pepito Albert and those of the entourage by Patrice Ramos-Diaz and Randy Ortiz. Mars cousin Margarita Fores has drawn up the menu and, in fact, they have set up a mock of the reception dinner tables.

"Ang ganda! Its exactly how I would want a wedding dinner table to be. Beautiful! Mar keeps reminding me, 'Not too much,' so its great that my contacts all gave me discounts and friends lent me old things to use for the decor. It is turning out so well." exclaimed Korina.

Korina calls their wedding a "Peoples Wedding" because she and Mar are not keeping anything secret. Every detail will be documented and shown as a two-hour special on Channel 2.

"So, makikita ng tao ang lahat ng detalye ng kasal. We are thinking of a way to accommodate people who would like to be at the church and be part of this special moment between myself and Mar. Mar has helped so many people and everywhere I go, people ask, 'Kailan ang kasal? Imbitado ba kami?' They want to go. It is very heartwarming and I wish we could invite the whole country. Hahahaha! So I guess television is the best way to make them part of it."

The Honeymoon. Korina didnt say where. But are they going to show that, too, in the TV coverage?

Nina - Renditions Of The Soul

Nina has just released her new CD called "Renditions Of The Soul" under Warner Music Philippines.

Renditions Of the Soul is a selection of tracks taken from Nina's Wave 89.1 acoustic show that is being aired live every Friday night at 7 pm. Being a top staple of Wave 89.1's playlist created a show especially for the Soul Siren. Fans can look forward to hearing Nina render her own version of all-male hits from this special weekly radio show.

The 17-track album is a reflection of who Nina is at the moment. "I can say that the songs I sing in my albums very much represent who I am... Because when I sing songs, I try to make it my own even if it was done originally by another artist." The melancholic yet powerful expression of feelings in the songs shows her unique talent as a singer.

Her singing perfectly renders the message ofevery selection: love, longing and the purity of emotional surrender. Thus, the first single from her album is "She's Out of My Life," that was originally sung by Michael Jackson. When asked what made her choose this as the first single, she said,"Almost all of the songs in the album would qualify as the first single however "She's Out of My Life" was the one that got the warmest reception."

The rest of the songs in the CD repertoire include: "Can't Find the Words to Say Goodbye," "Cold Summer Nights," "Half Crazy," "Home," "Is There Something," "One Last Cry," "Why Can't It Be," "Go The Distance," "7 Days," "Never Again," "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Lost Without You."

CBCP Wanted Blanktape's "Banana" and Dagtang Lason's "Magmahal Ako ng Bakla" Banned; Alpha Music Pulled-Out Rapper Blanktape's Album

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) asked the public and radio stations to ban some pop songs particularly the song "Banana" by Blanktape and Dagtang Lason's "Nagmahal Ako (Ng Bakla)."

Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iiguez, who also heads the Committee on Public Affairs of CBCP said that the lyrics of those songs have double meaning. "
Those should be banned. Dinudumihan nito ang isip ng mga kabataan instead of promoting the concept of morality."

As of latest update, Alpha music decided to pull out rapper Blanktape's album and apologizes to those who were offended by "Banana".

When ask for reaction, rapper Blanktape said, "

Sabi nga nila, good or bad publicity, still, publicity 'yon. Marami nga ang nagkainteres sa kanta. Mas lalo tuloy nakilala," he added.

Sing-along with Blanktape's Banana below:

Kung ayaw mong nabibitin sa taste
I-try mo itong banana ko babe I'm selling today

Sige i-try mo aking banana
'Pag natikman mo 'to di magsasawa
Dahil malaki ang aking banana
At ubod pa ng sarap aking banana

Kaya i-try mong aking banana
Para malaman mo kung bakit ba
Paborito ng bakla at dalaga
Pinagkakaguluhan ng may asawa

Watch Dagtang Lason's "Nagmahal Ako ng Bakla" Fan-Made Video below:

Kaya ngayon napagpasyahan
Na bakla ang aking iibigin
At ipapadama ko na himig na aking
Damdamin sa kanya
Oo nga! At hindi sa isang babae
Dahil ang puso ko ay kanilang sinabutahe
Para bang ako'y isang laruan

Na tinapaktapakan pagkatapos
Pagsawaan kanilang tatalikuran
It's so unfair kaya bakla na lang

At di niya pinagkait at sakin di lumapit
Kyan hanggang ngayon virgin pa ang aking pwit
At alam ko naming wala akong kahati

Di ko siya mabubuntis
Pagkat pareho kami ng ari. Grabe!
Buong buhay niya ay sa akin binigay
Lahat-lahat kanyang inalay

Wala kang ibang gagawin
Kasi lagi akong busog
Hindi mo ako ginugutom

'Cause takot kang mabugbog

Last Thursday night when Darna hit its highest rating so far, Rosalinda garnered 31.6%, the first time the Carla Abellana-starrer surpassed the 30% bracket since its debut last month. Other kapuso programs are also beginning to regain its ground after getting trumped by kapamilya programs in the past weeks.

SM Cinema Management Issues Statement About "And I Love You So"

SM Cinemas issued a short statement behind the reason for not showing of Star Cinema's "And I Love You So" from any of their cinemas. (Click HERE to read related story.)

Here is the statement of SM Cinema Management through its Senior Vice President, Mr. Edgar Tejerero:

"It is unfortunate that we are unable to show And I Love You So in our cinemas today. We remain committed to the continued growth of the Philippine Film Industry by providing our customers with wholesome family entertainment in our movie theaters."

"And I Love You So" opened yesterday, August 12, in about 100 theaters nationwide, but not in SM Cinemas.

According to source, "And I Love You So" reportedly grossed Php3.4 million on its first day nationwide.

Meanwhile, Bea's last movie with John Lloyd Cruz, One More Chance (2007), grossed Php5 million on its first day in SM Cinemas alone. But this is probably because Bea was paired with John Lloyd.

According to a report by YES! Magazine, SM Cinemas sell 45% of all movie tickets sold in the country.

"And I Love You So" Graded B by Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB)

Star Cinemas latest offering "And I Love You So" received a B grade from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

For getting the second highest grade for quality filmmaking, the film outfit will get a 65% amusement tax rebate from the government.

This is a good thing for Star Cinema knowing that they needed the tax rebate specially now that the movie is not showing at all SM Cinemas which account for 45% of all movie tickets sold in the whole Philippines.
