Shamcey Supsup Nervous About the Upcoming Miss Universe 2011 Pageant

Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup, the country's representative to the upcoming Miss Universe 2011 pageant to be held in Brazil in September, started to prepare for the said much-awaited event.

Supsup revealed that her training includes following a strict diet to gain more weight.

I have to drink milk twice a day. I have to eat more protein or less carbs. Pero I still eat rice. I think Ive gained weight already. From 105 lbs, Im now 112 lbs. They want me to gain more like siguro mga 3 lbs na lang, she said.

Supsup said that although her training regimen is stressful, she gets through it because of the support that she receives from her friends.

The training is stressful. But what makes it more bearable is having friends with you. Nakakatuwa. Kahit ako ang unang ipapadala, lahat sila kasama. Kasama ko sila sa Spanish class, kasama ko sila sa Portguese class, sa gym. Ang mga kasama ko sila ang nagpapagaan ng lahat ng trainings ko, she said.

Supsup said that she is nervous and excited about the pageant.

Yung excitement at kaba magkahalo na. But then I always tell myself na you just keep your faith and if its Gods will, then it will be given to you as you long as youre ready for it, Supsup said.

30 Seconds to Mars Live in Manila Concert Tonight

"Enjoyment, excitement, escape, connection and some kind of relief from the monotony of music that is out there." This is what 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto hopes people can get from their music.

Once you hear the band's name, you would think they got it in connection with the planet Mars or the galaxies, but it is apparently in no way related to the planet. The band came across a thesis with a subtitle "30 Seconds to Mars," which talks about the fast-paced world and where technology takes humans. 30 Seconds to Mars is actually how band members Jared Leto (vocalist and rhythm guitarist), Shannon Leto (drummer) and Tomo Milicevic see how their music is presented.

"Most importantly, it is a good representation of our sound. It's a phrase that is lyrical, suggestive, cinematic, and filled with immediacy. It has some sense of otherness to it. The concept of space is so overwhelming and all encompassing I doubt there is a song written that doesn't fall within it," Jared said in an interview with Shoutweb.

Held as 'Best Rock Band' by MTV Europe Awards in 2010, 30 Seconds to Mars has sold millions of records worldwide and is behind the hit songs 'Kings and Queens,' 'From Yesterday' and 'Closer to the Edge.' 30 Seconds to Mars have three albums so far, 'Thirty Seconds to Mars,' 'A Beautiful Lie' and 'This is War.' Some of their music videos were directed by Jared himself, such as The Kill,' 'From Yesterday,' 'Closer to the Edge,' 'Kings and Queens' and 'Hurricane.' 'Kings and Queens' was MTV Video Music Award's 'Best Rock Video' for 2010.

Formed by the Leto brothers in 1995, 30 Seconds to Mars has already performed in nearly 500 sold-out shows worldwide since 2005, including festival performances such as Lollapalooza in the US, Pinkpop in the Netherlands and Summer Sonic in Japan. Filipino fans will get a chance to rock out with 30 Seconds to Mars as they come here for a one-night only concert 'Thirty Seconds to Mars Live in Manila' tonight at the Trinoma Open Parking. 'Thirty Seconds to Mars Live in Manila' concert is brought by Futuretainment Inc.

The band members may all have different jobs outside the band, but Jared, Shannon and Tomo come together to create music, which encompasses their life.

"For some of us in the band, our involvement with 30 Seconds to Mars borders on obsessive-compulsive territory. It can be kind of an all-encompassing thing. It is a very necessary part, not just of our expression, but our lives," Jared further said in the Shoutweb interview.

Being a musician and an actor, as well, Jared sees film and music two different things, but agrees that both have unique ways in enabling to express one's self. Jared sees music as a different process as of working on a character in a film. "With music, we dictate the story, character, mood and everything else. We create the world rather than just support it," Jared said.

Neil Etheridge Hit by Kuwaiti Fan with a Laser Pointer

Philippine Azkals goalkeeper Neil Etheridge was reportedly hit directed to his eyes using a laser pointer by a Kuwaiti fan to distract him during the first leg of the 2nd round in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match last July 23 in Kuwait.

An Azkals source said Etheridge had difficulty focusing and rubbed his eyes because of the beam. A Filipino cameraman noticed the red track and reported it to FIFA officials.

The players were all talking about it, said the source. Neil was bothered by the light in his eyes but didnt know what it was. Fans try to distract the goalkeeper by training a laser light on his eyes but its banned and European football officials are very strict about it. Those found beaming laser lights are brought out of the stadium. I dont know if anyone was taken out in Kuwait. Someone joked that if they used laser lights in Kuwait, well use flash lights in Manila.

Incubus Concert in Manila

Incubus staged a very successful sold-out concert at the Araneta Coliseum called If Not Now, When? - also the title of their newly released album.

This is the third time that the American Rock played in Manila the first was in 2004 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) open field, and then in 2008 at the Araneta Coliseum.

A multi-platinum selling act, Incubus already released successful albums such as "Make Yourself" (1999), "Morning View" (2001), with their last studio album, Light Grenades (2006), debuting at Number One on Billboards Top 200. They've had such hits as "Nice to Know You," "Pardon Me," "Drive," "Megalomaniac," "Love Hurts" and many others.

K-La Rivera, Joyce Pring and Mike Advincula are the Newest MYX VJs

A singer, a swimmer and a fine arts student are MYX VJ Search 2011 winners.

MYX, the countrys No.1 music channel, proudly named RnB sweetheart K-La Rivera, swimming hottie Mike Advincula and quirky Fine Arts student Joyce Pring as its newest music video ambassadors in the MYX VJ Search 2011 finals night held Wednesday, July 27, at The Block activity center, SM City North Edsa.

Despite the heavy rains brought by typhoon Juaning, fans filled the venue to witness this historic announcement and the performances of the MYX VJ finalists themselves, Chavacano band Maldita, Callalily lead vocalist Kean Cipriano and electronica music-artist Somedaydream.

VJ K-La, the Filipina-Canadian who first started her stardom journey via ABS-CBNs hit singing competition Star Power, said becoming a MYX VJ was really a dream come true. Now shes excited with her new stint, and she looks forward to just having fun.

I would love to balance both singing and being a MYX VJ. But right now, Im really focused on developing myself as a VJ. Im working on my Tagalog, said VJ K-La.

When asked how she will feel if shell be introducing her own music video as a MYX VJ, she said: Thats another level. What more can I ask for?

VJ Mike, the captain of the De La Salle University swimming team, on the other hand, believes his unpredictable personality have encouraged MYX fans to vote for him. He was also surprised with the outpouring of support his family gave during the finals night.

I started out as a quiet guy, then unti-unti kong inilabas ang tunay na kulay ko and it really worked out. So, Im really excited to live a new life, because ever since Ive been living a life as a student athlete, he said.

In joining this years MYX VJ Search, the 61 swimmer actually sought the advice of his team mate Enchong Dee, who is also one of Kapamilya networks brightest leading men. Enchongs advice seems to have brought Mike to victory.

When I entered the competition, I asked Enchong right away. What shall I do? Then he advised me to just be myself, VJ Mike shared.

For University of the Philippines Fine Arts student VJ Joyce, spontaneity and her quirky character are just some of what she can offer. She thanked her fans, who call themselves the Pringles for believing in her.

I am beyond ecstatic and blessed to have this opportunity. I never expected to win this competition because my co-finalists are very talented and charming.

Her win may be unexpected for her, but VJ Joyce never considered herself as a small fry. I dont think you should enter into a competition when you think youre an underdog. So you really have to believe in yourself. No one will believe in you, unless you believe in yourself.

Tropical Storm Don Threatens the Gulf as Its Strength Intensifies

Tropical Storm Don has not changed during the past several hours, heading west-northwest toward the coast of Texas.

TS Don is currently located about 635 miles east-southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas, and about 590 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, Texas.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said a tropical storm warning for the coast of Texas has been extended southward to the mouth of the Rio Grande.

The center of TS Don expects to move through the Southern and Central Gulf of Mexico later Thursday and approach the Texas coast on Friday.

Don, which currently has sustained winds near 40 miles per hour (64 km/h) with higher gusts, is expected to pack maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in the next 48 hours and poses a major threat to the Gulf, home to thousands of oil and gas production platforms, producing about 29 percent of U.S. oil output and more than 10 percent of domestically produced natural gas.

The U.S. government's weather agency has forecast an "above normal" 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, spawning six to 10 hurricanes of which around half could become major.

Azkals vs Kuwait Game 2 Result

Final Result: Philippine Azkals lose to Kuwait Al-Azraq, 1-2 (1-5 on aggregate).

Game Highlights: The Philippine Azkals bid goodbye to its World Cup qualifying campaign after losing to a 10-man Kuwait Al-Azraq in the second leg of their tie at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.

The Kuwaitis, who were enjoying a 3-goal lead from the first leg, went on the attack right at the opening whistle as they funneled passes to the left wing.

The Azkals, after being pinned back for several minutes, launched counterattacks with Phil Younghusband at the receiving end of long balls.

Kuwait had 2 golden opportunities to increase their aggregate lead over the Philippines.

Two Kuwati strikes hit the upright, while another forced a flying save from Neil Etheridge.

The second-leg deadlock was broken by a stunning long-range screamer from Azkals midfielder Stephan Schrock.

The Filipino German, who missed the first leg because of suspension, connected on a thunderbolt from 30 yards that found its way past the outstreched arms of the Kuwaiti goalkeeper.

Kuwait were reduced to 10 men after Fahad Al Ebrahim was given his second yellow card for a bookable offense.

However, they quickly recovered through a long-range goal by Yousef Nasser in the 61st minute.

A breakaway run by Waleed Ali in the 83rd minute resulted in an own goal by Rob Gier.

It silenced the Azkals, who failed to capitalize on having an extra man.

Animal Crush Videos Producers Wanted

MANILA, Philippines Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has announced that it will offer a P100,000 cash reward for any information that may lead to the arrest of the couple believed to be behind animal torture videos.

The suspects, identified as Dorma "Chita" Rieon and her husband Vic Rieon, are facing charges for violating Section 6 of Republic Act (RA) 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 and Section 9 of RA 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act in January 2011.

The National Bureau of Investigation earlier identified the suspects behind the crush videos, which showed kittens, puppies, mice, rabbits, and other animals being tortured and killed by women.

Girls on the video clips crush the animals under their high heels or sit on them. Some animals are skinned alive. Authorities said the act is a type of sexual perversion.

The videos are sold to foreign clients who are able to choose what type of animal they want the girls to kill. Clients also dictate what attire the girls should wear during the act.

The suspects charge their clients between $25 to $1,000 each.

Buhay party-list Rep. Irwin Tieng has filed House Bill 4595 that would criminalize the sale of "crush videos" and other filmed acts of animal cruelty.

If passed, violators can be imprisoned for up to 7 years, fined up to P300,000, or both.

Stormtrooper Helmet Designer Andrew Ainsworth Wins Battle Against George Lucas

The prop designer who made the first Stormtrooper helmets in the Star Wars films won a copyright battle against George Lucas and can now sell replicas of the originals, according to media reports on Wednesday.

Andrew Ainsworth spent more than $1.15 million and the past five years to battle against Lucas, who created the Star Wars franchise, reported the BBC.

The U.K. Supreme Court rejected a challenge issued by Lucas against Ainsworth to sell the helmet replicas.

The judges in the case ruled that the helmets are considered a prop and are fully functional rather than a sculpted work of art, which means their copyright protection is 15 years from the date and has since expired. Copyright protection for a sculpture is 70 years.

The court also ruled that Lucas copyright had been violated in the U.S., but Ainsworth told the BBC that he does not sell his works in the country any more, and does not hold assets in the country.

I am delighted to have won the right to continue to make these replicas from the original tools and moulds, Ainsworth told the Daily Telegraph newspaper. I am proud to report that in the English legal system David can prevail against Goliath if his cause is right. If there is a force, then it has been with me these past five years.

The court said that the Star Wars films are considered works of art created by Lucas and his companies, however the helmet was utilitarian in the sense that it was an element in the process of production of the film, according to the Guardian newspaper.

Julia Roberts Ad Banned

L'Oreal ads featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington have been pulled from circulation in the United Kingdom "for being overly-airbrushed."

The decision was made after Jo Swinson, a Liberal Democrat member of Parliament "who has waged a long-running campaign against 'overly perfected and unrealistic images' of women in adverts, lodged complaints with the Advertising Standards Authority" about the images.

The ASA ruled the ads "breached the advertising standards code for exaggeration and being misleading and banned them from future publication."

Tropical Storm Don Update

Tropical Storm Don, this year's first major Gulf of Mexico storm, formed over the southern part of the oil-rich basin on Wednesday on a track toward the Texas coast.

The storm forced several offshore energy operators to evacuate support workers, but was not yet strong enough to cause companies to shut in production.

Shell Oil Co, Apache Corp, Anadarko Petroleum Corp said they were evacuating support workers primarily from western Gulf operations. BHP Billiton and BP Plc were evacuating support workers from central Gulf platforms.

The storm was expected to move through the southern and central Gulf through Thursday and approach the Texas coast, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

That path would take it near oil and gas operations in the western and west-central part of the Gulf, largely avoiding the biggest concentrations of production platforms south of New Orleans, but near several coastal refineries.

"If the weather continues to move toward our facilities, we are prepared to remove additional personnel and shut in production at that time," Anadarko said.

Oil traders were watching the storm develop, but said it was not yet having an impact on U.S. prices, which fell more than $2 a barrel on Wednesday due to a rise in crude oil stocks and weak economic data.

Wholesale gasoline differentials on the well-supplied Gulf Coast gained a penny per gallon, but traders said upsets at refineries in the region could have as much influence on prices as the storm.

"A move to the North or Northwest could prompt precautionary shut-ins of offshore production facilities, depending on its intensity, although it will need to strengthen rapidly to pose any threat to facilities," JP Morgan analyst Lawrence Eagles said in a note.

Other producers, including BP Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp, Chevron Corp and Mexico's state oil company Pemex said they were monitoring the storm.

The Gulf accounts for 29 percent of U.S. oil production and 13 percent of natural gas output, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. About 30 percent of U.S. natural gas processing plant capacity also lines the Gulf Coast, the EIA said.

Refiners along the Gulf Coast, home to 40 percent of the nation's refining capacity, were also watching the system.

The storm is being closely watched by the global insurance industry, which is on track for its worst year ever. Insurers and reinsurers have already lost more than $60 billion in 2011 on natural disasters, and a major U.S. hurricane landfall could become a market-changing event, letting insurance companies raise prices across the board after years of declines.

Those possibly facing the biggest short-term hit include domestic insurers such as Travelers, Allstate and Chubb - all of which have suffered huge tornado losses this year as well as reinsurers including Berkshire Hathaway

The NHC said the system was about 755 miles east of Corpus Christi, Texas, and moving toward the west-northwest at nearly 12 miles per hour (19 km/h).

The Texas coastal bend is the most heavily irrigated cotton area of the state. The crop's harvest is set to start in early August. A storm could damage the state's cotton production at a time when large parts of Texas have been baked by drought.

NASCAR Prayer by Pastor Joe Nelms: Smokin Hot Wife, Goodyear Tires, Boogity Amen!

Baptist Pastor Joe Nelms lead the prayer during Saturday's Nationwide Federated Auto Parts 300 NASCAR race in Nashville, Tennessee.

He began his prayer as one might expect any Pastor to begin a benediction, "Heavenly Father we thank you tonight for all your blessings," but then the prayer took a turn for the abnormal. "We want to thank you this night for these mighty machines that you've brought before us. Thank you for the Dodges and the Toyotas and thank you for the Fords."

Nelms went on to thank his Heavenly Father for, among other things, "Goodyear tires that bring performance and power to the track," and Sunoco for its racing fuel.

Yet, the prayer didn't end there. The Pastor made sure to also thank God for his family, starting with, "my smokin' hot wife ... Lisa," and don't forget, "my two children, Eli and Emma, or as we like to call the, 'The Little E's.'"

Nelms ended the prayer with a bang, shouting, "Boogity, boogity, boogity. Amen!"

Watch the video below:

Nelms, who became an overnight internet sensation because of the said invocation, also received a negative attention from those who witnessed the event. But the Pastor stood by his actions.

In an interview on Sirius Satellite's radio show "Tradin' Paint," Nelms defended the invocation he gave:

"I don't want to do the cookie-cutter prayer. Not that we don't need to thank God for our military men and women not that we don't desire safety for all of the of the officials, workers and drivers, we certainly don't want anything to happen to anybody out there. We need a safe race. But it's the same prayer week in and week out and I'm not sure anybody is even listening to it anymore. So I said, I want to get somebody's attention, so that's been our desire every time we've been up there, to try to make an impact on the fans and give them something they'll remember and maybe they'll go home on a Friday night or a Saturday night and say, 'Maybe I ought to get up and go to church in the morning.'" Nelms said.
